A Lake of the Ozarks vacation is one of the most famous reservoirs in the United States. You might wonder if there really is a lot of fishing available in such a touristy spot.  Yes there is and that is no doubt what keeps vacationers coming back!  You can fish for all types of fish species when you go fishing in the Lake of the Ozarks.  From largemouth bass to black and white crappie to bluegill fish to catfish, the lake has it all.  One of the best things about fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks is that there is no off-season.  You can fish all year round with fishing boat rentals!

That said there are certain seasons you should aim for.  Some fish types tend to move in certain months; for example, catfish are late spring spawners and tend to move in April.  There might also be certain locations where fish are biting, like on the main lake or on the flats.  In general, feeding activity falls with water temperature.  It helps tremendously to order a fishing report.  This report goes into more detail on temperatures, what fish are moving and where they can be found.

Before you start fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks with fishing boat rentals, you must read over the list of rules.  Rules might be generalized or specific, depending on your planned fishing activity.  For example, paddlefish cannot be possessed when caught.  There are certain sections of the lake that are no fishing zones.  There are some areas that prohibit grabbing, snaring and throwlines.  There are also limits on the number of fish you can catch and the size of fish that can be rightfully possessed.

The Wildlife Code of Missouri states very specifically what types of fish can be caught and how big they must be to be possessed.  Visitors must also pay for a nonresident annual fishing permit and a daily fishing permit.  What type of fishing boat rentals do you need?  Some of the most commonly requested models include fishing tritons, center consoles and bass boats.  Remember, you haven’t truly experienced the beauty of the Lake of the Ozarks until you’ve been fishing!

WaveRunner rentals refer to the trademarked name of personal watercraft made by the Yamaha Motor Company.  The vehicle has been so successful that the term WaveRunner has become a generic name for various types of fast-moving watercraft.  The type of vehicle was first introduced in the year 1987.  There were two versions: a standup and sit down boat.

The newest WaveRunners, such as the 2010 WaveRunner VX model, have very luxurious features.  Most new models have three seats as well as a 1052 engines or above.  This type of boat was produced using nanotechnology, which allows the production of a high-powered vessel that is still very lightweight.  This technology is exclusive to the Yamaha company.  With this technology, WaveRunners are made to be small, light and durable and yet still accelerate with top speeds.

WaveRunner rentals are very fast watercraft, and should be operated by responsible (and sober!) drivers.  Some of these models can travel over 60 miles per hour on the water.  However, the newest models also have additional features that will be of interest.  Some WaveRunners have water and outdoor temperatures, reverse RPM control (which prevents over revving of the engine and keeps you at the right speed), telescopic steering, cruise mode (to avoid fatigue), no wake mode which lets you stay at a low speed, and watertight storage compartments.

Rental companies will offer a variety of these watercraft from various manufacturers, including Seadoo rentals.  Don’t be surprised though if many top rental companies only deal with Yamaha, since they have built the industry standard.  Many of the newer WaverRunner rentals are built with four-stroke engines, which are electronically fuel injected, and thus more efficient in using gas and releasing emissions.  Jetski rentals, particularly the SuperJet model is an exception, it having a carbureted engine.

The big question is, technical specs aside, how can you use this fast-moving water-bike?  Anything but fishing is our recommendation.  It’s a lot of fun if you are single and hitting the town.  It is fun for two lovers on a romantic vacation.  You could even take along a third person since many WaveRunners seat a total of three individuals.

The Lake of the Ozarks is a very large body of water.  You will need to walk miles and miles if you travel by land only.  Use WaveRunner rentals to cut short the walking time—and enjoy a wonderful boating experience!

Other watersports like Paddleboats are very inexpensive but still get the job done, as they offer quiet and carefree strolling.

4. Waverunners

If you want greater speeds then you have to ask for the Yamaha Waverunner.  All boat rental gurus know that Yamaha makes the best waverunners in the business; not only do they have innovative features for a comfortable drive but they are also very fast—sometimes in excess of 60 mph!  Some of the most popular models of waverunners include the Yamaha VX Deluxe and the Yamaha FX HO.  These are very small, lightweight personal watercraft and yet they speed off in no time, so always drive them responsibly!

5. Express Cruisers

You could even rent a cruiser from Iguana Watersports.  A cruiser can exceed 40 feet in length and fit a large group of people for a comfortable get-together on the lake.  Cruisers are self-sufficient in terms of living accommodations and very comfortable—it’s almost like renting a hotel room on the water!

6. Apparel and Accessories

You can’t just grab the keys and go—you will also need some common boat apparel and accessories.  These might include sunglasses, storage bags, hats, refreshments, lifejackets or even full bathing suits.  (Yes, they even have bikinis so you can steal the eye of a few sailors)
